International Student Scholarships

There are many scholarships available to students at WIU.

Once you are enrolled at WIU, you will be able to apply for the scholarships listed below. 

Below are scholarships available to international students. 

 Western Illinois University International Commitment Scholarship 

Award: $3,000, available fall and spring semester
Criteria:

  • Must be a newly admitted undergraduate or graduate, non-sponsored international student enrolling to WIU for the first time
  • Minimum 3.5 GPA (confirmed by International Admissions Office; 3.5 GPA must be maintained for renewal)
  • Admission into a degree program at WIU
  • Full-time enrollment (minimum 12 semester hours for undergraduate or 9 semester hours for graduate)
  • $1,500 will be awarded fall semester and $1,500 will be awarded spring semester
  • Undergraduate students are required to live in University Housing, subject to availability, waived in the Quad Cities. University Housing options include: Bayliss-Henninger, Tanner, Grote, Corbin-Olson, Lincoln-Washington, Thompson.
  • Scholarship only applied to WIU tuition. No cash refund is available for this scholarship.
  • Available for up to four years OR two years for graduate students OR until student receives a degree, whichever comes first.
  • No scholarship application is required. Qualifying students are notified through email.

Students who are sponsored or have a graduate assistantship are not eligible for this scholarship. 

 

 Western Commitment Transfer Scholarship 

Award: $2,000 for 3.0-4.0 GPA, $1,000 for 2.5-2.99 GPA 
Criteria:

  • Must be an undergraduate transfer student who has earned a 3.0-4.0 grade point average (GPA) for renewable $2,000 scholarship or 2.5-2.99 grade point average (GPA) for $1,000 renewable scholarship.
  • The scholarships will be renewed each year if students maintain a minimum 2.75 GPA.
  • Admission into a degree program at WIU and full-time enrollment.
  • Scholarship only applied to WIU tuition. No cash refund is available for this scholarship.
  • No scholarship application is required. Qualifying students are notified through email.
Organization of American States & Bahamian Government Scholarship

Organization of American States and Bahamian Government Scholarship. Award: Western Illinois University has been working with the Organization of American States (OAS) since 2015. The main goal is to provide education opportunities to students in the OAS member states. Western Illinois University is honored to work with OAS. Through the leadership of OAS, Western has been chosen as one of the nine United States schools to participate in the OAS Partnerships Program for Education and Training with the Bahamian Government.

 

Rodney and Bertha Fink International Scholarship

Award: $1200 split in two installments. $600 awarded in fall & $600 awarded in spring, available fall semester only
Criteria:

  • Student must be current female international student
  • Financial need will be regarded as an important requisite
  • Preference may be given to applicants based on academic performance and/or demonstrated campus/community involvement
  • Preference will be given to a female student from an emerging/developing country majoring in Agriculture or Agriculture Business

 

  Oluseye Kolawole International Student Scholarship 

Award: $500, available fall and spring semester
Criteria:

  • Student must be currently enrolled at WIU
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Be an international student at WIU (preference will be given to Nigerian students)
  • Be in good academic standing
  • Graduate students with assistantships are not eligible.

 

Award: $500 scholarships, available fall and spring semester
Criteria:

  • Must be current full-time international student, male or female
  • Financial need will be regarded as an important requisite
  • Preference may be given to applicants based on academic performance and/or demonstrated campus/community involvement 

 

Award: $400 scholarship, available fall and spring semester
Criteria:

  • Must be current full or part-time international student, male or female
  • Financial need will be regarded as an important requisite
  • Preference may be given to applicants based on academic performance and/or demonstrated campus/community involvement

 

Award: $325 scholarship, available fall and spring semester
Criteria:

  • Must be current full-time international student, male or female, any major
  • Grad students must have 3.5 GPA or better; undergrads must have 2.5 GPA or better
  • Must have a letter of recommendation from WIU international alum 

 

Award: $500 scholarship, available fall and spring semester
Criteria:

  • Must be current full-time international student
  • Financial need will be regarded as an important requisite
  • Must have attended WIU for two or more semesters
  • Must have at least 2.5 GPA
  • Must be undergraduate
  • Preference may be given to applicants based on academic performance and/or demonstrated campus/community involvement

 

  Phi Beta Delta International Student Scholarship

Award: $500, available spring semester only
Criteria:

  • Completion of one semester at WIU
  • 3.2 GPA (undergraduates), 3.5 GPA (graduates)
  • Be in good judicial standing
  • Maintain full-time enrollment 

 

  Ruth Hughes WESL Scholarship

Award: $800 (available fall semester only)
Criteria:

  • Open to a graduate of the WESL Institute who has become a regularly admissible full-time student at Western Illinois University
  • Preference will be given to African American students 

 

Award: $1000 scholarship, available fall and spring semester
Criteria:

  • Must be Korean National, GPA 3.0 or higher
  • Must demonstrate financial need
  • Must be within one year of completing FIRST degree from WIU
  • Must be in good judicial standing 

 

Award: $200 scholarship
Criteria:

  • Be currently enrolled at WIU
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Be a member of the Redeemed Students Fellowship
  • Be an international student at WIU
  • Be in good academic standing
