Study Aboard: Introduction to the Cruise Line Industry (Disney Cruise lines and Bahamas) - led by Dr. MInsun Doh and Rachel Smith, earn RPTA 450 (2-3 hrs). Travel dates: January 6-10, 2013

This Study Abroad Course is designed to acquaint participants with the process of operating a cruise ship. It is an excellent opportunity to gain first-hand information about the cruise line industry through unprecedented access to ship personnel and backstage operations. Not only will you take a cruise to the Bahamas, you will get to tour a destination resort and the Straw Market during the Nassau stop as well as experience the activities available at Castaway Cay, Disney's private island.

WISE Spain (Spain) led by Dr. Guada Cabedo-Timmons, earn SPAN (16 hrs). Travel dates: February 2-May 1, 2013

This program is conducted in cooperation with the Colegio de España in Salamanca and Universitat Jaume I in Castellón. February and March are spent in Salamanca, site of the first university founded in Spain and a city that is traditionally college student-oriented. In April, the group moves to Castellón on the Mediterranean coast of Spain to experience a modern campus, one of the most technologically and academically advanced in Spain.
Disney World Communication Culture

Not only is the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, Florida, one of the most popular vacation destinations in the world, it's also a great example of effective communication by a multinational corporation. Through various tours and attractions at the resort, participants will discover the layers of non-verbal communication utilized by the Disney Imagineers.
International Health Care Systems

This course provides participants with opportunities to learn about the British National Health Service (NHS) and the challenges it faces firsthand. Through visits to the Florence Nightingale School of Nursing and Midwifery and the Royal College of Surgeons, participants will learn about the many facets that went into creating and now maintaining the NHS
Agriculture Down Under (Australia), earn INAG 362 or BAT 300/600 (3 hrs) Travel dates: March 6-17, 2013

This Study Abroad Course offers you a variety of opportunities to witness agricultural processes "down under". You will visit Charles Sturt University where you will tour livestock and other agricultural facilities and interact with your counterparts there. Additional visits are planned to farm businesses, vineyards, and wineries to explore other facets of agricultural enterprise. Cultural excursions round out the Course with stops in Melbourne and Sydney including a tour of the world-famous Opera House.
Galapagos Island Ecology (Galapagos Islands), earn BOT/ZOOL 379/679 (3 hrs) Travel dates: March 8-17, 2013

Every biologist dreams of going to Galapagos Islands, Ecuador and this is your chance. Students will be immersed in the evolutionary biology of Darwin, and benefit from this experience with an advanced understanding of plant and animal ecology only found in this outdoor classroom.

The Course begins in London. While there, you'll learn about British culture and history through visits to the Tower of London, Parliament, Westminster Abbey, St. Paul's Cathedral, and other popular sites. Visits to the Bank of England and other business ventures provide insight into British business culture. After four days in London, the Course shifts to Paris. French business practices are explored through visits to IBM and other companies while French culture and history is discovered through visits to Notre Dame, Versailles, the Eiffel Tower, and many others.

This Study Abroad Course will take place in two northern cities, Celle and Berlin, and will focus on environmental and cultural sustainability. Founded over 700 years ago, Celle offers a mixture of history, tradition, and modernity. Utilizing the high speed rail system, you'll then travel to Berlin to tour the ethnically diverse neighborhoods of the former East Berlin, visit the UNESCO World Heritage Centre and explore how the cultural, environmental, political, and economic factors influence how Germans live today.

New Zealand has a rich history that has affected the global growth of the Hospitality industry. Many recreation events first attempted in New Zealand have become a global phenomena. As a destination country, students will experience a wide of traditions and cultures.

Art in New York City (USA) led by Susan Czechowski, ARTH 379/MST 679 (3 hr), Travel dates: May 13-22, 2013

This Study Abroad Course enables you to experience the art and culture of New York City firsthand. You can participate in art in a way unavailable on campus as well as be involved in a multicultural and multilingual city. Each day’s events correspond to the gallery and museum exhibits at that specific time within the context of the local flavor of the area. You will visit major comprehensive museums, galleries, and artist studios including the Museum of Modern Art, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Chelsea, Uptown and SoHo galleries, and others. Visits will also be made to Grand Central Station, Ground Zero, Wall Street, the Brooklyn Bridge, and many other New York City landmarks.
Eternal Rome (Italy), earn HIST 379/679 (3 hrs), led by Lee Brice and Jim Phillips. Travel dates: June 6-22, 2013

Students will study the sites and visit the surveying remains of one of the most important components of the Western tradition while also being exposed to a modern country. The course will focus on four over-arching themes with visits to a mixture of sites, museums, galleries and churches in Rome and central Italy. The thematic itinerary will include the following: The Roman Republic, The Age of Empire, and the City of God and Medieval Rome, and the Modern Rome and Italy.
WISE Costa Rica

This program offers a four-week immersion in Spanish language in culture while also providing on-site guidance and mentoring by a Department of Foreign Languages faculty member.
Ecology and Natural Resource Management in Southeast Asia (Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore) RPTA 450G (3 hrs) Travel dates: June 1-23, 2013

Southeast Asia offers unique ecology and wildlife found nowhere else in the world, and a well managed system of parks. Participants will see unique species up close, study their niche in the ecosystem, and talk to professionals who manage these areas to projects these species. In addition, participants will get exposure to these unique species and wildlands noting the challenges of managing for preservation of natural areas in developing nations. Cultural resources and the effects of management for sensitive ecosystems on local cultures will be explored through visits to private and public parks, and rural areas in Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand.
WIU in Belfast

Based at the Institute of Irish Studies at Queen's University in Belfast, this course combines on-site classroom instruction with excursions to give a fuller picture of Northern Ireland. Although both the United States and Norther Ireland promote and maintain the ideals and values of a democratic society, their histories, beliefs, politics, and economics circumstances are very different. This course offers an outstanding opportunity for students to understand first hand how democratic socities must evolve to meets society's needs.
