Joanne SellenMessage from the WESL Director

Hello. My name is Joanne Sellen and I’d like to take the opportunity to introduce myself and our program. I am the Director of Western’s English Language Institute (WESL) at Western Illinois University. After having trained at the University of Michigan and having taught English in Mexico, Japan, and the United States, I have settled in beautiful Macomb, Illinois.

Here at Western Illinois University, you can study and experience the charm of living in small town America, and be only a 4-hour train ride away from America’s third largest city, Chicago.

I would like to invite you to review this web site to learn about our language program. The WESL program is one of only four accredited programs in the State of Illinois. What also makes us special is that we care about our students’ future success in an American university.   We do our very best to prepare our students academically, culturally, and socially for student life.

WESL is a small program which allows us to give special, individual attention to each of our students. We welcome students from all over the world as well as transfer students who are studying within the U.S. The WESL faculty is experienced, friendly, and helpful. We work hard to make sure that you reach your goals and enjoy learning English here at Western Illinois University.

Sincerely,

Joanne Sellen, Ph.D.

Director, WESL Institute
