What is a libertarian?

Liberty - tarian. (Someone who believes in liberty.)

Pollitically, a libertarian is someone who values the principles of individual liberty, personal responsibility, free markets, and peace.

Given the current geo-political situation, libertarians favor a substantial reduction in the size and scope of government at all levels.

Libertarians are neither liberal or conservative in the modern, American sense of those terms, but are sometimes referred to as "classical liberals," or "market liberals."

Libertarians generally believe that violence and, therefore, government force (& taxation), are not legitimate means by which to solve society's problems. They reject the use of fraud and the initiation of force by individuals, groups, and governments alike.

A libertarian might say...

"You should be free to live your life as you see fit, not as some politician or bureaucrat thinks is best." -Harry Browne

Or: "You have the right to do or be whatever you want, so long as you do not infringe upon the rights of others."

More specifically, you have the right to:

- Keep every cent that you earn. (No IRS)

- Eat, smoke, inject, or inhale any substance into your own body. (No Drug War)

- Not give money to a popular cause.

- Choose your own retirement plan, or to not have one at all. (No Social Security System)

- Not fight in a war or join the Selective Service.

- Defend yourself with a concealed firearm.
