Federal Trade Commission

The FTC investigates complaints of consumer fraud and enforces compliance with federal laws which protect consumers. The FTC website offers links to EConsumer.gov, a joint project of consumer protection among agencies of 20 nations, as well as an E-Commerce & the Internet link, which contains a wide variety of online protection information.

Information Security: Emerging Cybersecurity Issues Threaten Federal Information Systems

This GAO Report analyzes the potential risks to federal systems of spam, phishing, and spyware; government-wide challenges to address these issues; agency perceptions of risk; and recommendations for improvement. 2005

NIST Computer Security Resource Clearinghouse (CSRC)

The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) designed this website to collect and disseminate computer security information and resources so that users, systems administrators, managers, and security professionals can better protect their data and systems. A primary goal of CSRC is to raise the awareness of all computer systems users -- from novice to expert -- about computer security.

Computer Incident Advisory Capability (CIAC)

The U.S. Department of Energy developed this website to provide accurate information about computer security vulnerabilities, to provide incident response services to sites that have been the victims of attacks, to publish security alerts, and to find new vulnerabilities.

FBI Cyber Investigations

This website details the FBI's efforts to stop the spread of malicious code, to prevent online sexual predatory behavior, to counteract intellectual property targeting, and to stop internet fraud. Cases, news, resources, statistics, and the opportunity to report internet crime all can be accessed here.

Internet Crime Complaint Center

A collaborative effort between the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the National White Collar Crime Center, this website offers a convenient mechanism to report internet-related crime and prevention tips. The IC3 2005 Annual report offers valuable internet fraud statistics and an annual report by state is available.

Computer Crime & Intellectual Property Section

This Section of the U.S. Department of Justice is responsible for implementing the Department's national strategies in combating computer and intellectual property crimes worldwide. The website offers the latest press releases, hot documents, and a summary chart of recently prosecuted cases, among other information.
