Policies & Procedures

Policy

The Malpass Library will provide material through Interlibrary Loan to WIU faculty, staff, and students. This will include material received through I-Share, ILLiad, and other lending libraries including international loans. Some examples of material obtained through Interlibrary Loan includes: books, articles, media such as Video tapes, DVDs or CDs, and microfilm.

Procedures

Ordering

  • Users may request items by sending requests through I-Share or ILLiad.
  • Interlibrary Loan will not accept orders for materials via the phone for WIU users

Copyright

The WIU Malpass Library’s Interlibrary Loan Office is required to follow the FAIR USE guidelines under the COPYRIGHT LAW. These guidelines allow libraries to interlibrary loan only 5 articles from the same journal in a given year.

Most Interlibrary Loan requests are obtained at no charge because of our consortia relationships. The library does not subsidize copyrighted materials for WIU faculty, staff, undergraduate and graduate students.

In accordance with the U.S. Copyright Law (Title 17 U.S. Code) items for which copyright has to be paid as stated by the copyright law are:

  • Anytime a library requests more than FIVE articles from ONE PERIODICAL TITLE (JOURNAL/MAGAZINE) during the current year.
  • A library may not request more than ONE article that appears in the SAME ISSUE of a PERIODICAL.
