Library Circulation Services For Faculty
To check out materials at WIU libraries, faculty should present their WIU ID card that displays their 9-digit university ID number, together with the library's 21711 prefix. This 14-digit library ID is encoded as a barcode on the face of the card.
Books
Books are checked out to faculty for an initial loan period of 16 weeks. Two further renewals of 16 weeks each are allowed. There is no limit to the number of books that may be checked out at any one time. A courtesy notice reminder is sent out via email seven days before books are due. Overdue and fine notices are sent out via email.
Holds
We do not hold books for patrons. As a member of the 77-library CARLI consortium it is, in general, easier to obtain unavailable books from elsewhere than to try to recall books from our patrons. We do occasionally recall books needed for reserve.
My Account
Library patrons have access to their library account via the WIU Library Catalog. The MyAccount function lists books checked out, books borrowed from other libraries, the status of interlibrary loan requests, fine information and the ability to renew books (limits permitting).
Periodicals
Periodicals is a non-circulating collection. An exception is made for faculty to borrow journals for a 3-day check out period for teaching and research purposes.
Surrogate Checkout & Photocopying
Faculty may appoint a GA to act as a surrogate to check out library materials and request photocopying of journal articles. Items are checked out to the faculty ID. For this reason a list of surrogates is held at the circulation desk. To be added to the list please fill out and return the surrogate checkout form. Library policy prohibits check out of items to persons presenting another's ID card, and we strongly urge faculty not to ask GAs to obtain books for them (faculty) on the GA's own ID!
