The Interlibrary Loan department works with other libraries worldwide to acquire (for WIU faculty, staff and students) items not found on Western Illinois University Library shelves. Last year, the department was asked to obtain 8039 items for Western's library users. Anyone needing to order an item or items can make requests to us using paper forms (by mail or in person). Requests can also be made
electronically. The Interlibrary Loan department is located in the Western Illinois University Library in the southwest corner of the second floor. The department's hours during the regular school year (not including semester breaks, holidays and summer sessions) are:
- Monday through Friday: 8:00am to 5:00 p.m.
- Saturday and Sunday: closed
Summer hours will be:
- Monday through Friday: 8:00am to 5:00 p.m.
- Saturday and Sunday: closed
Any one patron may make up to five loan requests per day. This number includes any combination of books or photocopy requests. When ordering items, it is very helpful for the patron to keep the citations of what is ordered so, if there is a problem, the necessary paperwork can be found and the problem can be corrected.
The Interlibrary Loan department WILL NOT order the following materials for its users:
- textbook titles found on the current WIU bookstore textbook list
- items currently on reserve in the WIU Library
- any item found on the shelves of the WIU main library or any of its branches
- duplicate item requests from one patron
- entire issues of a journal
