Information Systems

The Information Systems unit administers the library's Voyager integrated management system (cataloging, acquisitions, and circulation modules, and the online public access catalog). Customized system reports are generated on a regular basis and upon request. The unit supports and assists WIU library personnel and the patrons who utilize the system.

The unit provides a number of web-related services including the coordination, development and maintenance of the WIU Libraries' web presence. The unit collaborates with library personnel and other WIU entities in creating, and providing access to, electronic information resources/services, and the development of special presentations in support of the Libraries' educational mission. The unit facilitates online access to numerous bibliographic databases and other information resources and services, develops customized relational databases, and designs web user interfaces to enhance access to library collections and other electronic services.

Information Systems is responsible for coordinating the implementation and support of innovative digital bibliographic systems such as: Periodicals Holdings List, SFX link resolver, WebFeat federated search engine, the ContentDM Digital Object Management System, ILLiad (web interface), and the library proxy server, among others.

The unit works in cooperation with Library Computer Services, other campus technology entities, and the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois (CARLI), a consortium of over 180 libraries.
