Program: Theatre

Program Overview

The study of Theatre encompasses the literary, historical and philosophical aspects of theatre along with training students in drama and performance. WIU's Department of Theatre and Dance produces in three stage facilities on campus featuring a variety of space configurations with which to work. Students can participate in six mainstage productions and dozens of studio performances during the academic year, as well as Summer Music Theatre.

Students can choose a general Theatre major and pair it with a complementary minor or a comprehensive program in Theatre with a focus on acting, directing or production and design. Theatre majors are prepared to enter careers in professional acting, theatre directing or managing, set designing and more, or continuing to advanced graduate study.
