Update

Except for very minor interior work, the project was completed in time for its Homecoming Half-Time Dedication on September 29, 2007. A crowd of more than 15,000 greatly appreciated the enhanced seating and the new North and South concession and restroom facilities.

Background Data

The project provides for renovation of the student section of Hanson Field. The renovation will replace and increase the existing seating from 3,800 to 5,000 at the current site.  Existing outdated wood seating (built in 1955) will be replaced with aluminum seating.  In addition, ADA-compliant restrooms and concession stands will be constructed in close proximity to the student section.

The improvements come as part of the University’s commitment to improve cost effectiveness and accountability and ensure a safe environment for its students. The renovation will enhance student safety and allow greater access for all students.

Construction began following the conclusion of the 2006 football season and will be completed in time for the start of the 2007 football season.

This project helps fulfill a goal of creating environments that support student interests and provide opportunities for leadership and personal growth as stated in Higher Values for Higher Education, the University’s Strategic Plan. Funding for the project is supported by a facilities enhancement and life safety fee of $7 per credit hour established at the request of student leaders.
