CALL FOR ACTORS, DIRECTORS, AND DRAMATURGS

Mid-America Dramatists Lab

Mid-America Theatre Conference Playwriting Symposium:

“Wrighting in Collusion: Collaborative techniques in Writing for Performance”

Taking our lead from the conference wide theme of “New Millennium Formations: Developing a Praxis for Collaboration & Multicultural Diversity” the Playwriting Symposium of the Mid-America Theatre Conference seeks actors, directors, and dramaturges to participate in our Mid-America Dramatists Lab which produces an afternoon of ten-minute plays in concert readings at the Conference.

The ten-minute plays that will be presented will have been created in collaborations between two or more playwrights, or combinations of playwrights and directors, playwrights and actors, playwrights and dramaturges.   The scripts will reflect the themes and possibilities of a genuine multicultural theatre with regard to race, gender, and sexual orientation. All actors, directors, and dramaturges are welcome to their own ten-minute plays: see the previously listed Call For Scripts for more details.

This is a juried event, and the call for actors, directors, and dramaturgs is directed primarily at academic theatre artists who are either faculty or graduate students at colleges and universities seeking the opportunity to present their work to their peers.

The plays will be rehearsed and presented as concert readings at the conference with invited directors, actors, and dramaturges.  All theatre artists who are selected to participate in this event must register for the conference; there is no funding from the conference for travel or lodging costs.  The Mid America Theatre conference takes place at the Allerton-Crowne Plaza Hotel in Chicago on March 2-5.
