Education Symposium

Examining Effective Pedagogy in the University

The Theatre Education Symposium would like to invite submissions which explore effective and successful theatre pedagogy. All theatre disciplines are urged to share their practice, philosophy, and theory.

What is effective pedagogy in theatre? What strategies have we employed to keep ourselves vital in the classroom?

How do we translate the power of our art form to our students? What philosophies drive the choices we make as teachers? What drives our practice? What innovations or technology have affected our pedagogy? How do we embrace change as teachers of theatre? Do students learn what we teach? How do we know? What does assessment look like in our field? How do we effectively engage all our students? What is essential for our students to know? What do we do on the university level to improve our own personal pedagogy?

Abstracts should be 150 - 250 words long. Please include applicant name, address, telephone number, email address, and college/university affiliation. Final papers need not exceed nine (9) pages or 2500 words. Papers will be limited to oral presentations of fifteen to twenty minutes maximum. Sessions should not exceed seventy-five minutes, including response time. Deadline for submission is November 15, 2002.
