Gregory Gilbert
Email: ggilbert@knox.edu Gregory Gilbert holds a dual appointment as Senior Curator of Collections and Exhibitions at the Figge Art Museum and is Associate Professor of Art History at Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois, where he also serves as Director of the Art History Program. He received his B.F.A. degree in Art History from the University of Kansas and his M.A. and Ph.D. in Art History from Rutgers University. While completing his M.A., he received a certificate in Museum Studies at Rutgers and has held internship and curatorial assistant positions at the Spencer Museum of Art, University of Kansas, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York City and the Jane Voorhees Zimmerli Art Museum, Rutgers University. His specific area of scholarship is American modern and contemporary art, in particular topics in Abstract Expressionism and Pop Art. He has also authored exhibition catalogs for the Spencer Art Museum, the Jane Voorhees Zimmerli Art Museum, Knox College, the Figge Art Museum and the Augustana College Art Museum. He has also published articles on 20th century American art in the Oxford Art Journal, Art Journal, Aurora: The Journal of the History of Art and the Rutgers Art Review, as well as publications for MIT Press and Rutgers University Press. He has taught art history at Rutgers University, Purdue University and Knox College and is on the editorial board of Aurora: The Journal of the History of Art.
