Matthew Toland was born and raised in Rushville, Illinois, about thirty miles from WIU-Macomb. He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Women's Studies from WIU in 2005. Because he loves to travel, Matthew has been to some of the world's best museums and wants to be part of the Museum world.

Matthew is new to the Quad Cities and is enjoying getting to know the area, people and WIU-Quad Cities campus, and especially the Figge Art Museum. “My professors and fellow students have been so great that it has made starting a new program in a new place really easy.”

He is looking forward to all of the exciting classes offered in his program and the opportunities outside of class to learn in workshops at other institutions around the world. Matthew enjoys travel, music, film, and theatre and is fluent in American Sign Language. He is a member of the American Association of Museums (AAM) and a member of the board of directors in his home town’s community theatre, Pandora’s Playhouse.
