Jon Jones is a twelve-year veteran of secondary education,
having taught in grades five through twelve in Tennessee, Florida, and
Illinois. Mr. Jones has taught a variety of courses including Band,
Chorus, Guitar, and General Music in both public and private schools
ranging in enrollment from under 200 to over 1300 and from rural to
urban settings. Mr. Jones earned a Bachelor of Science in Music Education
from Tennessee Technological University in 1993 and a Master of Music
Education degree from The Florida State University in 1998. He is a
member of IMEA, MENC, NEA, AFT, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
Mr. Jones has been an active member of the musical communities in which
he has lived, participating in community band, orchestra, and chorus
in addition to his teaching responsibilities. In 2004, he performed
at the Sydney Opera House and toured Australia with the Tallahassee
Winds and American composer Eric Whitacre. He returned to Australia
in 2005 and observed classes and discussed marching band techniques
at John Paul College, Brisbane, Queensland.
Mr. Jones enjoys bringing musical understanding to a broader audience
and is excited about teaching Humanities and First Year Experience classes.
His non-musical pursuits include bicycling, photography, collecting
non-fiction books he may get around to reading, and wishing he worked
for the Travel Channel.
