Andrea Redcay GravesAndrea Redcay Graves

Andrea Redcay Graves is Associate Professor of Flute, member of the Camerata Woodwind Quintet and founding director of  Flute Fest at Western Illinois University School of Music (WIU appointment 1998). She has also taught for Texas Wesleyan University, Oklahoma Arts Institute, Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp, and Interlochen Arts Camp. Her recent activities include performances and clinics for the conventions of the Costa Rican Flute Association (San Juan), National Flute Association (Columbus, Nashville and San Diego), the Florida Flute Association  (Orlando), the Mid-South Flute Association (Nashville) and the Flute Society of St. Louis.  She has  adjudicated for the Chicago Flute Club, the Iowa Flute Festival, Illinois Music Educators Association, and the College Music Society. Her various articles on performance and pedagogy are published in Flute Talk and The Instrumentalist magazines.  Dr. Graves' current research is an extension of her award-winning dissertation Theobald Boehm and The History of the Alto Flute including recent premieres in London, England of Texturologie II (2003) for alto flute and computer by American composer James Caldwell and Sonatina (2005) for alto flute and piano by British composer Alexandra Harwood. Her premiere edition of Largo for Alto flute or C Flute and Piano (2005) by Ludwig von Beethoven is now available through Progress Press.  Dr. Graves tours throughout the Midwest as a Yamaha Performing Artist and with the Camerata Woodwind Quintet whose new CD with Crystal Records features their commission Woodwind Quintet No. 2 by Anthony Iannaccone. She recently performed as guest Principal Flute and Alto Flute with the Peoria and Dubuque Symphonies and previously in New York with the Lincoln Center Educational Program and Museum of Modern Art Summer Garden Series,  the Canadian Scotia Chamber Music Festival, the Forth Worth Symphony Orchestra and the Dallas Chamber Orchestra.    

Dr. Graves holds degrees from Texas Tech University (BM), The Juilliard School (MM), and The University of North Texas (DMA).

Dr. Graves performs on a Yamaha 681H – heavy wall flute and a Yamaha 481B – alto flute.
