Jennifer D. Jones, Ph.D., MT-BC, Assistant Professor of Music and Director
of Music Therapy, joined the faculty at Western Illinois University
Fall 2006. Dr. Jones holds a Bachelor of Science in Music Therapy from
Tennessee Tech University (1992), a Masters of Music in Music Therapy
from Florida State University (1998), and a PhD in Music Education and
Therapy from Florida State University (2006). Her college teaching experiences
include a two-year period on the faculty at Tennessee Tech as visiting
assistant professor and three years as a teaching assistant/instructor
at Florida State University during her doctoral work. Additionally,
Dr. Jones has extensive experience as clinical music therapist treating
children through adults with psychiatric illnesses, teens and adults
in recovery for substance abuse, women with eating disorders, infants
and toddlers with developmental delays, younger and older adults with
physical and cognitive deficits, and medical music therapy experience
with adults with cancer, orthopedic, and neurological disorders. She
is an active member of the American Music Therapy Association (AMTA)
and served as Parliamentarian for the Assembly of Delegates since 2002,
chaired regional conferences and committees, and served as Secretary
and Vice-President to the Southeastern Region of AMTA. Her research
has been published in Journal of Music Therapy, Southern
Music Educator's Journal, Voices: A World Forum for Music Therapy,
and Music Therapy Perspectives.
