WIU Alum Chris Ward to Give Keynote Speech at Journalism Day Oct. 19

MACOMB, IL - - Western Illinois University alumnus Chris Ward will be the keynote speaker at WIU's Journalism Day Friday, Oct. 19.

Ward's speech, "From Comic Books to Radio: Following the Journalism Career Path in the 21st Century," is scheduled for 11 a.m. in the University Union Lincoln Room. He will chronicle his career path from being a comic book writer to his radio position.

Ward is currently the director of marketing and communications at 88.1 KDHX, St. Louis. He graduated in 2003 with degrees in journalism and broadcasting. While at WIU, he served as the Western Courier opinions editor and assistant editor to "The Edge." After graduating, he worked for Wizard Magazine: The Guide to Pop Culture and Village Voice Media.

Registration starts at 9:30 a.m., with workshops starting at 10 a.m.

Journalism Day offers regional high school teachers and students, as well as WIU students, a chance to explore journalism as a career. The free event will include an informal workshop, a guest speaker and opportunity to take part in a question/answer session.

10-10:50 a.m. - Workshops
11 a.m-noon - Chris Ward "From Comic Books to Radio"
Noon- 12:45 p.m. - lunch
12:45- 1:30 p.m. - Optional tours of campus newspaper offices, radio and/or TV stations.

The Department of English and Journalism, Visiting Lectures Committee and the WIU Chapter of Society of Professional Journalists sponsor Journalism Day.
