Timely Warning: Aggravated Assault [6:15 p.m. 10/05/12]
October 5, 2012
MACOMB, IL -- Western Illinois University Interim Director of Public Safety Tom Clark has issued a notice to the campus community regarding a reported aggravated assault on the Macomb campus during the evening hours of Thursday, Oct 4.
A student reported to OPS today (Friday, Oct. 5) on Thursday, Oct. 4, between 11:15-11:20 p.m., while walking near the southwest corner of Q-Lot an individual approached him and brandished a knife.
The suspect did not speak, but made a motion with the knife which led the victim to believe the suspect wanted his backpack. The victim threw his backpack to the ground and ran.
According to the report, the subject is described as 5'11"-6', approximately 160 pounds, wearing a dark gray hooded sweatshirt, jeans and a mask that partially covered the suspect's face. Due to the hood being pulled around the suspect's face and the mask, the individual could not determine the subject's gender or race.
The incident is under investigation. No one was injured in the assault.
Students should be observant of suspicious behavior and report anything out of the ordinary immediately to the Office of Public Safety at 309-298-1949, or use one of the 48 emergency call boxes located throughout campus.
