Anita Werling to Perform Recital Nov. 11

MACOMB, IL - - Western Illinois University School of Music Professor Emeritus Anita Werling will perform a faculty organ recital at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11 at the First Presbyterian Church, 400 E. Carroll St., in Macomb.

Werling's program includes "Prelude, Fugue and Chaconne in C Major, BuxWV 137," by Dieterich Buxtehude, "Voluntary in D Major," by William Boyce, "Variations of ‘Nun komm' der Heiden Heiland,'" by Anton Heiller, "Sonata in D Major, Op. 65, No. 5," by Felix Mendelssohn and "Prelude and Fugue in E Minor, BWV 548," by Johann Sebastian Bach. She will also perform John Eggert's "Partita on ‘Veni Creator Spritus,'" which was commissioned by the Western Illinois University Chapter of the American Guild of Organists (AGO) in recognition for Werling's 40 years of teaching at WIU.

As a concert organist, Werling has performed throughout the United States and in Canada and Europe. Among her special interests are the music of Bach, the 20th century French repertoire and music of women composers. She won the Gruenstein National Organ Playing Competition and received critical acclaim for her recording of the 19th and 20th century French organ music on the historic Moller organ at Central Congregational Church in Galesburg, IL. She served as the dean of the WIU AGO chapter for nine years and recently completed three terms as AGO district convener for Illinois.
