WIU Symphony Orchestra with Andrea Kim Dec. 7

MACOMB, IL - - The Western Illinois University Symphony Orchestra will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7 in the College of Fine Arts and Communication (COFAC) Recital Hall.

Under the baton of Director of Orchestral Activities Richard Hughey, the Symphony Orchestra will perform "Corolian Overture, Op. 62," by Ludwig van Beethoven, "Violin Concerto No. 4 in D Major, KV 218," by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart featuring Violinist Andrea Kim, "Symphony No. 8 in B minor ‘Unfinished,'" and "Symphony No. 9 in C Major ‘The Great,'" by Franz Schubert.

Originally from Germany, Kim is currently the assistant concertmaster of the Frankfurt Radio Orchestra. She has served as concertmaster for the Philharmonic Orchestra of Lübeck and the Bremen Philharmonic Orchestra. In March 2007, Kim won a grant from the German Music Competition and was inducted into the National Selection Young Artists Concerts. In February 2009, the duo won the international competition "Schubert and Modern Music" in Graz the special prize for the best interpretation of the modern factory.

She plays regularly in the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and the Chamber Orchestra of Bremen. In spring 2010, Kim founded her own chamber music festival that Amici Ensemble Frankfurt. She performs regularly with the Ensemble Instrumental de Granada in South America.

The concert is open free to the public.
