MACOMB, IL - Western Illinois University senior music major Emily Hart, of Quincy (IL), recently won the Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) Young Artist Woodwind Competition at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign.

Hart played the oboe in competing against five other performers in early November and will now compete at the MTNA Division Competition, Jan. 4-5, at Roosevelt University in Chicago (IL).

At Western, Hart has played in Wind Ensemble and Orchestra each semester.

The MTNA sponsors competitions to provide educational experiences for students and teachers and to recognize young artists and their teachers. Students compete at a variety of levels as they progress through the competition.
