Lytle: Student Retention & Success Asst. Director

MACOMB, IL -- Sara Lytle, former College Student Personnel (CSP) graduate program field supervision specialist for the Department of Educational and Interdisciplinary Studies at Western Illinois University, has been named the assistant director for retention and success within Western's Office of Student Development and Oriention (SDO). Lytle began her duties Jan. 7.

In her position, Lytle will be responsible for leading and directing programs, activities and services designed to enhance student retention and success. In addition, she will oversee the University's new retention initiative, the Building Connections mentor program, which was launched during the Fall 2012 semester.

"Sara's experience working with undergraduate students during her years in residence life, and her knowledge and understanding of programs aimed at student success, will allow her to build this new program aimed at further improving retention and achievement," said Vice President for Student Services Gary Biller.

Lytle had served as the CSP field supervision specialist since 2007. Previously, she was the complex director at Wetzel Hall for two years and also served as an assistant complex director at Western from 2000-2002. Lytle has also served as director of residence life (2003-2005) and assistant director of the Office of Student Programs (2002-2003) at Millikin University.

She has taught CSP courses and organized CSP Days and the Student Affairs 101 Conference at Western. Lytle is the adviser of the Western Illinois Student Personnel Association student organization, is a Building Connections mentor, and since 2007, she has served as the facilitator of the Macomb Area Chamber of Commerce Leadership Academy.

Lytle received her master's degree in College Student Personnel (2002) and her bachelor's degree in communication (2000) from Western.
