MACOMB, IL - - Western Illinois University Professor Emeritus Fred Jones is striving for Welsh influences to be recognized on both sides of the Atlantic Ocean.

Jones also won the Tarble Arts Center Membership Award at Eastern Illinois University's 19th Illinois Drawing and Watercolor Exhibition, for his drawings "Generation-Regeneration," which express the relationship between storms and the rebirth of life on the prairie. The exhibit is on display through Sunday, Feb. 24.

Jones commissioned illustrations of 12 poems in bi-lingual form for his exhibit. The exhibit also features six Welsh American artists and is in honor of Welsh calligrapher and artist Jonah Jones. Three pieces from Fred Jones' "Welsh American Portfolio," are also being featured in the exhibit.

Jones' said his pieces are a way to bring a consciousness of the Welsh influence in American culture, and he aims to expose the literary and artistic traditions in Welsh culture.

"Welsh artistic and literary experiences go back as far as its Celtic origins in earliest recorded history," Jones said.

Jones will also have two archival books on display at the Cedarhurst Center in Mount Vernon, Ill. The books, "Journey to Wales" and "Coming of Age in Wales," include paintings and photographic reproductions of Wales. They will be on display from Monday, Feb. 25 – Sunday, July 21.
