MACOMB, IL – The Western Illinois University Department of Theatre and Dance will present "Electra," Wednesday, Feb. 13 – Saturday, Feb. 16 in Hainline Theatre.

This production is being directed by Brennin Weiswerda as her thesis project for an MFA in Directing in the Department of Theatre and Dance.

"I feel very lucky to be able to direct 'Electra' for my MFA project," Weiswerda said. "Tragedy has long been a fascination of mine, and to be able to direct 'Electra' is literally a dream come true."

Electra is a Greek tragedy written by Sophocles, and Weiswerda said it is "a play about a woman struggling to stand up for what she believes is right, against the advice and wishes of her family and her country. Her strength is admirable, and her struggle is heartrending."

"My time at WIU has been by turns exhilarating, terrifying and inspiring, and to be able to direct this show with such a talented cast and crew, and with the support of the entire department, is an amazing end to three years of hard work," Weiswerda said.

Tickets for the production, $15 for the public; $13 for senior citizens and free for WIU students with valid identification, are available at the Hainline Theatre Box Office. The box office is open Mondays through Fridays from noon – 5 p.m.
