Julieta Mihai Faculty Violin Recital April 21

MACOMB, IL - - Julieta Mihai, a Western Illinois University associate professor of music, will perform a faculty violin recital at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, April 21 in the College of Fine Arts and Communication (COFAC) Recital Hall.

Mihai's program includes: "Impressions D'Enfance, Op. 28," by George Enescu, "Five Melodies for Violin and Piano, Op. 35 bis," by Sergei Prokofiev, "Sonata for Piano and Violin No. 7 in C minor, Op. 30, No.2," by Ludwig van Beethoven, "Sonata No. 1 in A Major, Op. 13," by Gabriel Faure and "Rhapsody No. 2 BB 96, Sz. 89," by Bela Bartok.

Mihai has performed in Austria, Canada, England, Germany, Japan, Romania and the United States. She is a Romanian National Violin Competition prizewinner and has also won the Concerto Competition of the Summer Festival Orchestra in Urbana-Champaign and the Paul Rolland Violin Award of the University of Illinois. She is the first violinist of WIU's Julstrom String Quartet and has toured throughout Canada as part of the Prairie Oak Piano Quintet. Mihai attended the Academy of Art in Bucharest, Romanina, the Toho Gakuen Music Academy in Kureha, Japan, and received her doctorate in musical arts from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
