WIU Guitar Ensembles Recital April 29

MACOMB, IL - - The Western Illinois University School of Music Classical Guitar and Jazz Guitar Ensembles will perform at 7:30 p.m. tonight (April 29) in the College of Fine Arts and Communication (COFAC) Recital Hall.

The Classical Guitar Ensemble will perform "Courant," by anonymous, "Awake Sweet Love," by John Dowland, "Largo," by Antonio Vivaldi, "Bourree and Minuet," by Georg Frideric Handel, "Allegro," by Franz Joseph Haydn, "Sonatina," by Thomas Attwood, "Duet in G Major, Op. 34," by Fernando Carulli, "Prelude and Sarabande," by Gilbert Biberian and "Spring Song," by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

The Jazz Guitar Ensemble will perform "Man Jody's Cold," and "Farmboy Funk," by Justin Haynes (music composition graduate student from Onieda, IL), "Good Pickin's," by Hank Mobley, "Jaguar," by Johnny Smith,, "Cristo Redentor," by Duke Pearson, "So Tired," by Bobby Timmons and "Soul Power '74," by James Brown and Maceo Parker.

Members of the Classical Guitar Ensemble include Instructor George Turner, Associate Professor Jennifer Jones, Patrick Moffett (junior computer science major with music minor from Macomb), Jared Rougghly (sophomore jazz studies major from Carthage, IL) and Janel Cross (senior music therapy major from Lynn Center, IL).

Members of the Jazz Guitar Ensemble include Turner, Moffett, Rougghly, Haynes, Faraz Chaudry (senior music education major from Skokie, IL), Joe Valdes (senior music major from Manila, Philippines), pianist Michael Aitchison (sophomore economics major with a music minor from Iowa City, IA), bassist Rob Killam (graduate student from Jacksonville, IL) and percussionist Wes Julien (freshman broadcasting major with a music business focus).

All students are part of the horn studio under the direction of Turner.

The concert is open free to the public.
