Juneteenth Celebration Set for June 15 in Macomb's Chandler Park

MACOMB, IL – The 10th annual Juneteenth Celebration in Macomb will be held Saturday, June 15 in Chandler Park.

The event, to mark the end of slavery, runs from 4 – 7 p.m. and includes a program and free food samplings, both beginning at 4:30 p.m. Other items planned throughout the afternoon include live entertainment, guest speakers, inflatable games, story telling and children's crafts.

Western Illinois University President Jack Thomas and Macomb Mayor Mike Inman will kick off the Juneteenth program at 5 p.m. with welcome remarks and the presentation of a Juneteenth proclamation.

The event is open free to the public and is put on each year by the Gwendolyn Brooks Cultural Center at Western Illinois University. For more information, call the center at (309) 298-2220.
