MACOMB, IL – The Western Illinois University Community Music School (CMS) is once again offering programs and private lessons for members of the Macomb and surrounding communities interested in finding their inner musicians.

According to Richard Cangro, director of Western's Community Music School, the goal of the CMS is to offer the highest quality instruction through artistic modeling and knowledgeable pedagogy.

"Our programs are staffed with teachers who are exceptionally qualified and are brilliant performers, too. Since opening in January 2009, the program has exploded with a flurry of fabulous, up-and-coming musicians," Cangro said. "New this year will be a guitar class for intermediate players who are able to read music and chord notation at a basic level. Private lessons are available for guitar, voice, organ and piano. The opportunity to perform in a string orchestra is available for experienced string students, as well."

Cangro added the CMS is continuing its Family Music Classes, a program for pre-school aged children and their parents.

"The early years of life are crucial for establishing a foundation for lifelong music development, and our Family Music Classes program brings musical playtime activities to life, teaching you and your child how to sing together in class and at home," he noted.

Registration information is available at www.wiu.edu/communitymusicschool, or contact Cangro at (309) 298-3114 or via email at RM-Cangro@wiu.edu
