MACOMB, IL – Lois Retherford, an admissions/records officer at the WIU Quad Cities campus, has been named the Western Illinois University Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month for August.

Retherford was hired in August 1999 as a secretary III and was promoted to secretary IV/office support specialist in January 2000. In August 2008, Retherford became an admissions/records representative and was reclassified to her current position in August 2012.

Retherford was nominated for employee of the month because of her "cheerful, upbeat and highly efficient" personality at work.

"She is an integral part of the campus and the University and maintains exceptional attention to detail," said her nominator. "Lois continually explores ways that can improve process and communication. She is a great role model for both new and experienced staff, leading by example."

In August 2010, the Goldfarbs established an endowment to permanently fund the University's Civil Service Employee of the Month award. The Goldfarb endowment is used to fund a $100 award for the recipient of the Civil Service Employee of the Month, as well as a plaque. The WIU Foundation provides a $500 stipend for the Civil Service Employee of the Year.

Western faculty, staff and administrators, as well as community members, wishing to nominate a civil service employee for the monthly recognition should contact Civil Service Employees Council (CSEC) representative Alisha Barnett at AA-Barnett@wiu.edu.
