The competition is open to high school violinists who are age 18 or under. The winner will be awarded the honor of performing as soloist with the WIU Symphony Orchestra, conducted by WIU Associate Professor Richard Hughey, on Nov. 21. The competition and final concert with the WIU Symphony Orchestra will take place in the COFAC Recital Hall.

Prizes will also be awarded for the violin competition, including $300 for first place, $150 for second place and $100 for third place.

The competition is named after Professor Almita Vamos, a former faculty member of the WIU School of Music.
