MACOMB, IL – Deborah Edwards, the chief clerk at the Center for International Studies, has been named the Western Illinois University Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month for September.

Edwards was hired for her current position in April 2012. She was nominated for the award because of her positive attitude and her willingness to help students.

"She interacts with international students on a daily basis, and she creates a calm, inviting atmosphere for students and ensures them that we are here to help in any way possible," her nominator said. "All of the students love Deb and know that she is helpful and caring. Her attitude helps others remember that we are here to help the students and always be positive and smile."

In August 2010, the Goldfarbs established an endowment to permanently fund the University's Civil Service Employee of the Month award. The Goldfarb endowment is used to fund a $100 award for the recipient of the Civil Service Employee of the Month, as well as a plaque. The WIU Foundation provides a $500 stipend for the Civil Service Employee of the Year.

Western faculty, staff and administrators, as well as community members, wishing to nominate a civil service employee for the monthly recognition should contact Civil Service Employees Council (CSEC) representative Alisha Barnett at AA-Barnett@wiu.edu.
