WIU JSO Headed on Chicago Tour

MACOMB, IL – The Western Illinois University Jazz Studio Orchestra (JSO) is headed out on tour and is bringing along guest trumpeter Bobby Shew.

The JSO and Shew will perform Monday-Wednesday, Nov. 4-6 live at the Jazz Showcase, at 806 N. Plymouth Ct. in downtown Chicago, playing with the Bolingbrook High School and Tinley Park High School jazz bands. The shows each night begin at 8 p.m. and 10 p.m., and admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students.

The Wednesday night events include an alumni event.

Also as part of the tour, the JSO will perform at Geneseo High School and Moline High School on Nov. 4, at Naperville North High School and Naperville Central High School on Nov. 5 and at Wheeling High School and Fenton High School on Nov. 6.

The tour wraps up with a concert at the College of Fine Arts and Communication (COFAC) Recital Hall on WIU's Macomb campus, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 7. The concert is open free to the public.

As the guest artist, Shew is a trumpet and flugelhorn player. He has performed with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, in the bands of Woody Herman, Della Reese and Buddy Rich and as part of studio work for numerous television shows. More recently, Shew conducts clinics and master classes at high schools and colleges all over the world.
