WIU Students Win Figge Exhibit Prizes

MACOMB, IL - Two Western Illinois University students were awarded top prizes during the College Invitational 2013 at the Figge Art Museum in Davenport, IA on Nov. 14.

Linsey Lundeen, a junior art major from Aledo, IL, was awarded first prize for Triptych of Prints 1, 3, and 4 from her fine art lithography book, "For Those I Care About, 2013." A WIU staff member and graduate student, Bethany English, was awarded third prize for her silkscreen print, "This is Your Life."

The exhibit featured artwork by college students from nine area colleges and universities, including Ashford University, Augustana College, Black Hawk College, Knox College, Monmouth College, Scott Community College, St. Ambrose University, Western Illinois University and the University of Iowa.

The award winners were determined by outside judges, and the results were announced at the exhibition's sneak preview. Barabara Leidenfrost sponsored the exhibit in memory of her husband, Oscar.

The Figge awarded cash prizes for first, second and third place winners ($250, $150, $50). The exhibition will be on view at the Figge in the Mary Waterman Gildehaus Community Gallary from Nov. 16- Feb. 9.

Students who were accepted into the exhibit from WIU include: Amanda Bratz, senior art major from LaHarpe, IL, metals; Samantha Eichhorst, senior art major from Mount Prospect, IL; Katie Verkuilen, sophomore art major f rom Germantown Hills, IL, sculpture recycled plastic and Colleen Wiley, a senior art major from Macomb, watercolor.
