MACOMB, IL -- The exhibit, "A is for Arab" will open Monday, Jan. 13 in Western Illinois University's Leslie F. Malpass Library.

The exhibit is comprised of images of Arabs and Muslims that have appeared in popular culture in the United States over the past century. The eight-panel display, which will be on loan from the Jack G. Shaheen Archive at New York University, provides an overview and historical context for the images of Arabs and Muslims found in media, which are as varied as editorial cartoons and romance novels.

In addition to the exhibit, a reception and lecture will be held Jan. 15.

The exhibit is sponsored by Western's Expanding Cultural Diversity Project, University Libraries and Center for Innovation in Teaching and Research (CITR), and the Islamic Center of Macomb.
