Mother of WIU President Passes Away

MACOMB, IL – Eleanor Thomas, 78, the mother of Western Illinois University President Jack Thomas, passed away Friday, Dec. 27 in Calhoun, Ala. (Lowndes County) after an extended illness. Thomas expresses his appreciation for the support shown to his family during his mother's illness.
"The Western Illinois University community expresses its deepest condolences to Dr. Thomas and his family on the passing of Eleanor," said WIU Provost Ken Hawkinson. "Our thoughts and sympathies remain with the family."
She is survived by her husband, Clinton, to whom she was married for 59 years, and children, Jack, Helenor Thomas Bell, and Marshall.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 1 at the Big Union Christian Church in Calhoun, Ala. Memorials may be made to the McDonough District Hospital Alzheimer's Fund in honor of Eleanor Thomas (525 E. Grant St., Macomb, IL 61455) or the Alzheimer's Association (P.O. Box 96011 Washington, DC 20090-6011).
