Western Illinois Horn Festival is April 6

MACOMB, IL – The Western Illinois Horn Festival 2014, which will be Sunday, April 6 at Western Illinois University, will feature Professor Annie Bosler and Dylan Hart as guest clinicians.

This year's festival will be curated by WIU horn Professor Randall Faust and presented by The Western Illinois Horn Institute with support from the Performing Arts Society, the Visiting Lectures Committee and the Music Business Association at Western.

Bosler currently teaches at The Colburn School of Performing Arts (CSPA), the University of California Irvine, Idyllwild Arts Academy and El Camino College. She has performed with Josh Groban, P-Diddy, Itzhak Perlman and Clint Eastwood, and in 2009, she toured with John Williams' "Star Wars in Concert."

Bosler performed on the Fox television show "Glee" during seasons two and four and with Groban on "Dancing with the Stars," "The Ellen Show" and PBS's "Live from Lincoln Center." She also works as a lecturer, speaking about wellness for musicians.

Hart is a freelance hornist and has recorded for video games, film and television, as well as performing a variety of music genres, including solo, chamber music, pop, jass, contemporary and orchestral concerts. He has also performed in more than 100 motion pictures, including "Frozen," "Man of Steel" and "Wreck It Ralph."

Hart has also recorded or appeared on television with stars, including Sting, Neil Patrick Harris, Stevie Wonder, Yo-Yo Ma and Quincy Jones. Most recently he performed with Paul McCartney and Ringo Star for CBS's "The Night that Changed America," and in the summer of 2013, he toured Europe with The Who.

Events surrounding this year's horn festival include:

8 a.m. – Guest artist rehearsals – COFAC Recital Hall
8:30 a.m. – Registration – COFAC Recital Hall Lobby
9 a.m. – Clinics with horn alumni and guests in Browne Hall
10:30 a.m. – Festival Horn Ensemble rehearsals
1 p.m. – Matinee Recital – WIU and guest hornists
2 p.m. – Clinic and master class with Bosler
3 p.m. – Presentation of Movie: "1MI: the Hollywood Horns of the Golden Years" and discussion about horn playing in Los Angeles with Bosler and Hart in the COFAC Recital Hall.
7:30 p.m. – Recital with WIU and guest hornists and the Festival Horn Choir.

Additional weekend events open free to the public include:

Friday, April 4
5 p.m. – "Music featured in Movies, TV, and Videogames and On Stage!" with Bosler and Hart, Browne Hall, room 215, open free to the public.

Saturday, April 5
3 p.m. - The movie "1MI: the Hollywood Horns of the Golden Years" and discussion about horn playing in Los Angeles with Bosler and Hart in the Sandburg Theatre. Reception to follow.
