LGBTQA Week Underway at WIU

MACOMB, IL -- The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered, Queer and Allies (LGBTQA) Resource Center at Western Illinois University and the UNITY campus organization is celebrating LGBTQA Awareness Week this week on the WIU-Macomb campus.

The annual celebration serves as an opportunity to educate students, faculty and staff and to celebrate the progression of equality. The week's schedule of events includes:

Today (Tuesday, April 15) at 1 p.m., a presentation on LGBTQA issues around the world will be held in the LGBTQA Resource Center (313 Seal Hall, east wing). At 7 p.m. today, "Orange is the New Black" will be shown in the LGBTQA Resource Center, with a discussion to follow on transgender issues.

A "Yes Love!" photo shoot will be held from 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 16 in the University Union Student Organization Center (lower level), and award-winning poet Kate Wirsing will perform at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 17 in the Horrabin Hall Theatre.

The week wraps up with Unity's OMG Drag Show from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Friday, April 18 at The Forum (Macomb Square). Doors open at 6 p.m. There is a $5 cover charge.
