Spring Gala Dance Concert April 24-26 at WIU

MACOMB, IL - Western Illinois University's annual Spring Gala Dance Concert will offer an evening of modern and ballet dance, choreographed by students, faculty and a guest artist in University Dance Theatre (UDT), at 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, April 24-26 in the Hainline Theatre.

Candace Winters-March, professor of dance and co-artistic director of UDT will present her piece, "La Familia." Heidi Clemmens, associate professor of dance and co-artistic director of UDT, will present her piece, "Uncommon Ritual." This piece is a collaborative project between UDT and Bridgeway, Inc.
Sara Semonis, the guest artist for UDT, is head of the Dance Area and artistic director of Illinois State Dance Theatre and holds an MFA in dance from the University of Iowa and a bachelor's degree from Western. This semester, she has set a piece on eight dancers called "Together We Roam."

Lara Little, instructor of dance at Western Illinois University, will present her piece of three dancers, "Círculo."

Student choreographers include:

  • Gabby Barrett, choreographer of "In Pieces," a senior, theatre major from Richton Park (IL)
  • Carissa Jurczyk, choreographer of "Eternal Nightmare," a junior, exercise science major from Deer Park (IL)
  • Katie Kaminskas, choreographer of "Elude & Longing For," a senior, psychology major from Downers Grove (IL)
  • Nikki Sangiacomo, choreographer of "Stop & Go," a senior, physical education major from Villa Park (IL)
  • Samantha Stratton, choreographer of "To You With Love," a senior, general studies major from Waukegan, IL

Members of UDT who will perform in this concert include:

Briana Anderson, a junior communication major from Evergreen Park (IL); Jessica Baker, a senior marketing major from Coralville (IA); Barrett; Jeremy Booth, a senior general students major from Joliet (IL); Lenesha Bowles, a sophomore exercise science major from Chicago (IL); Anna Diekemper, a freshman pre-business major from Dunlap (IL); Abbie Doom, a sophomore pre-law enforcement major from Decatur (IL); LeeAnn Gorecki, a freshman special education and pre-elementary education major from Crestwood, (IL); Molly Hall, a freshman psychology major from Crystal Lake (IL); Karly Hillyer, a junior psychology major from Rushville (IL); Kelly Jilek, a senior recreation, park and tourism administration major from Orland Park (IL); Jurczyk (see above); Kaminskas (see above); Meg Kremer, a junior exercise science major from Colchester (IL); Shannon Phillips, a junior political science major from Davenport (IA); Nikki Rybarczyk, a sophomore art major from Dalzell (IL); Sangiacomo (see above); Samantha Scaccianoce, a junior family and consumer sciences major from Genoa (IL); Aryana Snyder, a freshman pre-elementary education major from Davenport (IA); Holly Stauffer, a sophomore English major from Ft. Madison (IA); Stratton (see above); and Morgan Wiseman, a senior psychology major from Chillicothe (IL).
