Memorial Service Set for Dove

MACOMB - Western Illinois University Professor Emeritus Lewis Dunbar Dove, 79, of Macomb, passed away Sunday, April 13 in Macomb.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 14 at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1212 E. Calhoun St., in Macomb.

Dove, a professor of botany and physiology at Western, retired in 1995. He came to Macomb in 1969 after teaching at Tulane University. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees in agricultural chemistry from the University of Maryland and his Ph.D. in plant physiology from Duke University.

His research field included water relationships within plants and he published several papers and made international presentations at scientific conferences.

In addition to being a professor, Dove was also a musician, singing bass in choral groups and church and barbershop quartets.

Dove is survived by his wife, Ruth, and one son, Stephen, of Chicago (IL).
