Carr Retirement Reception is May 1

MACOMB, IL – A retirement reception for Gwendolyn Brooks Cultural Center Director Belinda Carr will begin at 3:30 p.m. Thursday, May 1 in the Western Illinois University Multicultural Center.

Carr has worked at WIU for 34 years and was named the director of the Gwendolyn Brooks Cultural Center in August 1985. She will retire June 30.

She has a Board of Trustees (general studies) bachelor's degree from Western and has completed graduate coursework in WIU's College Student Personnel, Instructional Design and Technology and Law Enforcement and Justice Administration programs.

She has served as the adviser to the Black Student Association, African Student Association, Christian Faith Campus Ministry, Cultural Expressions, Gwendolyn Brooks Cultural Center Dance Troupe, Heritage Ensemble, WIU College Chapter of the NAACP and the Black Student Summit. She previously advised the International Friendship Club for more than 15 years.
