MACOMB/MOLINE, IL -- Western Illinois University and Highland Community College (HCC) have signed a new agreement that will allow students to concurrently enroll at both institutions.

According to Andy Borst, WIU admissions director, the Linkages Program allows students to take courses at both Western and a participating community college during their first and second year of college to ensure a successful transfer. The agreement includes all of Western's degree programs.

"We are excited by the educational opportunities that this new partnership brings to Highland students," said Vice President of Quad Cities and Planning Joe Rives. "Last month, the University signed an Honors agreement and this month dual enrollment. These new programs further serve Highland students' needs and further enhance our successful partnership."

In addition to the Linkages Program with HCC, Western has a 2+2 dual admission program established with Highland. Students gain admission to their community college and Western simultaneously and will receive customized academic advising.

"Highland Community College and Western have had a long standing relationship. This latest partnership provides yet another accessible option for individuals who want to continue their education beyond an associate degree," Borst added. "We look forward to continuing to work with Highland Community College to provide this program that benefits students in the region."

According to Liz Gerber, HCC associate vice president of student services, the partnership provides Highland students planning to attend Western a seamless transfer.

"At HCC, we work hard to coordinate efforts with four-year institutions to continually improve upon the already strong transferability and articulation of our courses and programs," she added. "From a student service standpoint, students will benefit from shared advising and other resources."
