MACOMB, IL – Mark Heflin, a building service worker at Western Illinois University, has been named the Al and Elaine Goldfarb Civil Service Employee of the Month for June.

Heflin was hired as a building service worker in October 2004.

According to his nominators, Heflin exemplifies "hard work and good judgment."

"His responsibilities include caring for the Olson Hall conference room floors, which is important as it is a reflection of WIU for those who visit, which is often prospective students and their families," his nominators said. "He is a positive person and can be counted on to do his job in the most proficient and professional way. Mark has only had compliments since the day he started working in this area. His cheerful attitude and great work ethic make him an asset to the University."

In August 2010, the Goldfarbs established an endowment to permanently fund the University's Civil Service Employee of the Month award. The Goldfarb endowment is used to fund a $100 award for the recipient of the Civil Service Employee of the Month, as well as a plaque.

The WIU Foundation provides a $500 stipend for the Civil Service Employee of the Year. Western faculty, staff and administrators, as well as community members, wishing to nominate a civil service employee for the monthly recognition should contact Civil Service Employees Council (CSEC) representative Alisha Barnett at AA-Barnett@wiu.edu.
