WIU Mourns Death of Incoming Freshman

MACOMB, IL -- The Western Illinois University community is saddened to learn of the death of incoming freshman Marcel Pearson, 17, of Chicago. Pearson, who was shot earlier this week in Chicago, was scheduled to attend freshman orientation at WIU today (July 10). He was enrolled as a pre-business major.
"We were shocked and saddened to learn of this tragic news. We extend our deepest sympathies to Marcel's family and friends," said WIU President Jack Thomas.
A recent graduate of Englewood's Johnson College Prep, Pearson spent his last two years as captain of the high school's basketball team.
