MACOMB, IL -- Members of the Western Illinois University and Macomb communities are invited to attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony for Thompson Hall at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 12 to celebrate the newly remodeled residence hall. Tours and a reception will follow the ribbon-cutting.

Renovations began in February 2012, which included total replacement of the existing exterior wall, windows and HVAC system. Residential rooms received new carpet, overhead lighting, paint and room furniture. The building reopened August 2013. In June 2014, the Thompson lobby was renovated, receiving a complete remodel of the information desk and updated finishes, including ceilings, flooring, lighting and wall decor in the main lobby.

Thompson Hall opened in Fall 1969. The $6.5 million building housed 1,234 men and women in separate wings on 19 floors.

"We look forward to welcoming the members of the WIU and Macomb campus communities, as well as the University's many alumni and friends, to the ribbon-cutting ceremony for this tremendous facility," said Director of Residential Facilities Joe Roselieb.
