WIU Facilities Management, HFC Co-Sponsoring Sept. 20 IL River Sweep

MACOMB, IL — Personnel from Western Illinois University's Facilities Management and Horn Field Campus are encouraging members of the WIU and Macomb communities to come out Saturday, Sept. 20, and contribute to their efforts for the Illinois River Sweep, which is an annual one-day cleanup event on the Illinois River and its tributaries. In Macomb, the cleanup event will take place on the LaMoine River and is slated from 9-11:30 a.m. Refreshments will be provided.

To pre-register for this volunteer effort, contact Macomb Sweep Captain Pat Sullivan at (217) 322-2865. To register the day of the event (Sept. 20), at 8:30 a.m. report to the WIU Physical Plant parking lot (just north of the intersection of University Drive and Western Avenue on the Western's Macomb campus).

Participants are encouraged to dress appropriately for the weather and to wear long pants and closed shoes. Garbage bags and gloves will be provided.

The event is sponsored locally by WIU Facilities Management, Horn Field Campus, the LaMoine River Ecosystem Partnership (LMREP) and the Peace of Earth Lodge and Environmental Learning Center. Statewide the cleanup event is sponsored by the Friends of the Illinois River, The Nature Conservancy and Illinois American Water.
