MACOMB, IL — Tri-States Audio Information Services (AIS) at Western Illinois University will host a Trivia Night and Silent Auction Saturday, Nov. 1 at the WIU Multicultural Center. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., with the trivia competition beginning at 6 p.m.

All proceeds will benefit Tri-States Audio Information Services, which makes quality audio programming available to individuals who are blind, visually impaired, physically disabled, or developmentally disabled.

"We've hosted a silent auction, online and in our studios, for the last 15 years or so, but this year we are branching out to hosting a Trivia Night," AIS Director Jane Carlson said. "It will be a fun way for volunteers, friends of the service and community members to help us raise funds to support our audio programming for the print-impaired."

Funds from the event will go toward the purchase of radios for listeners and subscriptions to newspapers and magazines and help cover other general operating expenses.

Teams of eight may register for the trivia competition, which will feature 10 rounds of 10 questions on a variety of topics. Jonathan Ahl and Rich Egger of Tri States Public Radio will host the trivia competition.

Registration is $160 per team ($20 a person). Western students may register for $80 per team ($10 a person). Tables are limited so teams are encouraged to register early. To register a trivia team, contact Carlson at (309) 298-2403.

Numerous items and gift certificates will be up for bid at a silent auction during the trivia competition.

"We have a number of generous supporters in the community who have donated items to our auction year after year. That tradition continues in our new format this year," Carlson said. "Anyone is welcome to come to the event and bid on the items, even if they are not registered on a trivia team."

All attendees of the event will be eligible for door prizes. Light snacks will be provided and a cash bar will be available.

In addition, AIS is selling raffle tickets for a 16GB iPad Mini with a retail value of $529. The tickets are $2 each or three for $5, available from AIS board members and employees, at AIS and Tri States Public Radio, 320 W. University Dr., Macomb; the Tri States Public Radio Galesburg Bureau, 161 S. Cherry St., Suite 106, Galesburg; and at Market Alley Wines, 59 Public Square, Monmouth.

For more information about the event, contact Carlson at (309) 298-2403.
