WIU Department of Engineering Technology Awards Five Scholarships

MACOMB, IL - - Western Illinois University's Department of Engineering Technology announced the recipients of three scholarships named for former WIU professors and family members.


  • Norris A. Nelson scholarship ($100): Nick Bakeris, senior construction management major, from Davenport, IA

  • Robert "Bob" Erekson scholarship ($500): Jonathan Lee Tracy, senior construction management major, from Galesburg, IL

  • Jarrell and Sylvia Hofer scholarship ($1,000): Philip Hoffmann, senior construction management major, from Johnsburg, IL



There were no recipients of the Neil Hoover and Dr. Wendell L. Swanson Engineering Technology scholarships this year.

In addition, Freshman Professor Emeritus scholarships and Transfer Professor Emeritus scholarships of $100 each were awarded. Each year, the two scholarships are given to incoming freshman and transfer students in each of the three undergraduate majors: construction management, engineering technology and graphic communication.

Freshman Professor Emeritus scholarship recipients:


  • Benjamin Brondos, freshman engineering technology major, from Brookfield, IL

  • Arturo Vargas, freshman engineering technology major, from Cicero, IL

  • Jason A. Fry, freshman engineering technology major, from Shumway, IL



Transfer Professor Emeritus scholarship recipients:


  • Matthew Dickerson, junior construction management major, from Peoria Heights, IL

  • Adam M. Sterner, senior engineering technology major, from Durant, IA

  • Justin Derry, junior graphic communication major, from Industry, IL



No graphic communication scholarship was awarded for the Freshman Professor Emeritus scholarship.
