MACOMB, IL – Western Illinois University's annual Big Pink Volleyball (BPV) breast cancer awareness fundraising tournament is set to take place Monday-Thursday, Oct. 20-23 on the WIU-Macomb campus.

The 14th annual BPV tourney will be held from 4-11 p.m. (Oct. 20-23) at the Donald S. Spencer Student Recreation Center and is sponsored by Thompson Hall (University Housing and Dining Services) and Campus Recreation.

Team entries ($5 per person) for the single-elimination volleyball tournament are due by 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14 to the WIU Campus Recreation Office. (The annual human ribbon photo is scheduled to be taken at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21 at the front entrance of the Spencer Student Recreation Center. Participants are asked to wear pink.)

According to Campus Recreation Associate Director Judy Yeast, the 2013 BPV tourney raised $9,084 for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure and McDonough District Hospital's Mammogram and Other Cancer Screenings Program.

"We had 166 teams playing in the tournament in 2013," Yeast said. "Overall, for the 13 Big Pink Volleyball events we've organized at Western so far, we have raised $102,248 to support breast cancer awareness and cancer screenings."

This year's proceeds will also be donated to Susan G. Komen for the Cure and McDonough District Hospital's Mammogram and Other Cancer Screenings Program.
